Snorkel Kit

When you decide to learn to dive the very first thing you need to buy is basic snorkel kit: Fins, Mask & Snorkel.

Fins:

Remember when buying fins they will need to fit whichever suit you eventually decide to buy. If you plan to buy a dry suit you will usually need larger fin foot pockets to accommodate the hard boots of a dry suit. If you decide you will first buy a wet/semi dry suit then again the fins you buy will have to fit over neoprene wet suit booties.

Cost Fins range from £25 to £75 Booties approx. £25 - £35

Masks:

Remember when buying a mask how to check for a good fit. Pull the hair away from your face /forehead, hold the mask in the palm of your hand (glass down) with the strap over the back of your hand. Place the mask up to your face and breathe in through your nose.

If the mask is a good fit it should stay on your face by suction, without you needing to hold it on. It should also feel comfortable, not fitting too close to the sides of your eyes or bridge of the nose and not being too low on your upper lip.

Costs Masks £25 - £50 Optical lens additional cost of approx. £45

Snorkel:

Unless you plan to snorkel frequently on holiday etc. it may not be wise to buy an expensive valved snorkel as divers are in a habit of losing snorkels.

Cheap and cheerful is best, you can get a good basic snorkel for about a fiver.
